A woman surnamed Deng successfully won a RM20,000 compensation claim after the Pingtung District Court ruled that her husband’s co-worker, surnamed Su, had infringed on her marital rights.
Deng, her husband Xie, and Su all work at the same company. Deng was reportedly upset over her husband’s public displays of affection with Su at work and alleged that he frequently spent nights at Su’s rental apartment engaging in sexual activity. She initially filed a claim seeking nearly RM80,000 in emotional damages and compensation.
Su denied any affair, insisting that their relationship with Xie was purely professional. However, the court reviewed chat records provided by Deng, in which she asked Su last year, “That night, was it more times that he was soft or…?” Su reportedly replied, “Probably more times he was soft.” Additionally, Xie admitted to Deng that he had engaged in inappropriate relations with Su.
Based on the evidence, the court ruled that Su had violated Deng’s marital rights and awarded her RM20,000 in damages, taking into account the economic conditions of both parties. The ruling is subject to appeal.
