The suspect in a murder case involving the discovery of a decomposed body wrapped in a mattress with its hands tied at a shophouse in the Pokok Mangga area here has had his remand extended for another seven days starting today.
In a broader context, the case has drawn public attention due to the disturbing nature of the discovery and ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed that the remand extension of the 40-year-old local man is to assist police in continuing their investigations.
He said authorities are still awaiting instructions from the public prosecutor’s office for further action.
Previously, media reports stated that the decomposed body was found on May 28 inside a shophouse, wrapped in a mattress with both hands tied.
The victim was believed to have been dead for more than two weeks to a month before being discovered by the property owner, who had gone to check the premises after being unable to contact his tenant.
Following the discovery, police arrested the 40-year-old suspect to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
