A man of Rohingya ethnicity was caught by members of the public after attempting to flee the scene of a road accident in Jalan Padang Jawa, Section 16, on Thursday.
The incident, which was captured in a viral social media video, showed several individuals chasing the man before successfully detaining him not far from the crash site.
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said the accident occurred at about 6.50pm and involved two motorcycles.
He said preliminary investigations found that the Rohingya man was riding a motorcycle from the Padang Jawa direction and was believed to have turned right towards a commercial area before colliding with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
As a result of the crash, a local female motorcyclist suffered minor injuries to her hand and shoulder and received outpatient treatment at Shah Alam Hospital.
Her young son, who was a pillion rider, sustained a head injury and was warded for a day at Shah Alam Hospital before being discharged on Friday.
Police are investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
