Two 16-year-old teenagers pleaded guilty at the Pekan Magistrate’s Court on Friday to raping a 14-year-old girl with an intellectual disability at a hut on Oct 6.
However, Magistrate Melody Woon Sze Mun did not impose any sentence on the two accused during the proceedings.
According to the charge sheet, the teenagers allegedly committed the offence against the victim, aged 14 years and eight months, at a hut in Pekan between 9pm and 10pm on Oct 6.
Both were charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Sarah Aqilah Lokman handled the prosecution, while the two teenagers were represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer Noor Shuhada Arifin.
The court granted bail of RM8,000 for each accused, to be paid by their respective family members.
However, only one of the teenagers managed to secure bail through his family, while the other was sent to prison after failing to meet the bail requirement.
The case has been fixed for mention on Nov 30, when the court is expected to receive the teenagers’ moral reports.
