An elderly man who was reported missing for three days after the boat he was on capsized while returning from a fishing trip in Kampung Kuantan was found dead on Saturday.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the victim was discovered at 8.30am with the help of members of the public in the area surrounding the sunken boat.
He said the 73-year-old victim was handed over to the police for further action.
In the incident on Thursday, two local men aged 73 and 49 were involved when their boat overturned while they were heading back to the jetty.
One of the victims, a 49-year-old man believed to be the adopted son of the elderly victim, managed to save himself, while the senior citizen went missing.
A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched by the Fire and Rescue Department with assistance from the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA), K9 tracking dogs, and police to locate the missing man.
Search teams expanded their operation radius between one and three kilometres from the incident site.
On the third day of the search, the victim’s body was eventually found about 500 metres from where the boat had capsized before being sent to Tanjong Karang Hospital for further procedures.
