A 24-year-old shop assistant has pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court to two charges involving the assault of his father with a machete and the destruction of a car and motorcycle through arson.
The accused, Wan Saiful Wan Animebusu, entered the guilty plea after the charges were read before Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin on Thursday.
Under the first charge, Wan Saiful was accused of intentionally causing injury to his 59-year-old father, Wan Animebusu Wan Yusoff, using a machete.
The offence was allegedly committed at Kampung Wakaf in Pasir Puteh at about 6.30pm on June 1.
He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 26A of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any combination of those penalties upon conviction.
For the second charge, the accused was alleged to have committed mischief by fire after using petrol to set a Proton Satria Neo car and a Honda C70 motorcycle on fire.
The act reportedly caused losses amounting to RM7,000 to the owner of the vehicles.
The offence was allegedly committed at the same location, date and time as the assault incident.
Wan Saiful was charged under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and whipping upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nur Kamilah Che Ibrahim, while the accused appeared in court without legal representation.
During proceedings, the prosecution requested a separate date for the submission of case exhibits and sentencing.
The court subsequently fixed June 30 for sentencing proceedings.
The case has drawn attention due to the violent nature of the offences, which involved both an alleged attack on a family member and the destruction of property in the same incident.
