The 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) results released today recorded an improvement, with the National Average Grade Point (PNGK) rising by 0.03 points to 2.88 compared with 2.85 in the previous year.
This marks a notable milestone in national academic performance, reflecting a steady upward trend in student achievement over recent years. Education analysts often view such incremental gains as an indicator of overall system stability and gradual improvement in pre-university education standards.
Majlis Peperiksaan Malaysia (MPM) chairman Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff said a total of 1,336 candidates, or 3.5 per cent, achieved a perfect PNGK of 4.0, an increase of 70 candidates compared with 2024.
He added that the overall distribution of candidates achieving PNGK 3.75, 3.0, 2.75 and 2.0 also showed an increase compared to the previous year, indicating broader performance gains across different achievement levels.
Dr Md Amin, who is also Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) vice-chancellor, said 77.64 per cent or 29,616 candidates obtained full passes in at least four or five subjects, up from 76.55 per cent last year.
He noted that participation remained strong, with 94.89 per cent or 38,144 candidates sitting for the examination out of 40,199 registered candidates.
He further said almost all candidates who sat for the examination, 99.96 per cent, were eligible for the STPM certificate, highlighting the high pass rate requirement of at least a partial pass in one subject.
According to him, all 23 subjects offered recorded pass rates above 70 per cent, while improvements were seen particularly in Bahasa Arab and Bahasa Tamil.
However, Literature in English and Chinese Language recorded a slight decline of more than three per cent compared with 2024, while other subjects remained relatively stable.
In recognition of outstanding achievement, 18 candidates were selected as top performers for STPM 2025, comprising students from Science and Social Science streams, Orang Asli candidates, and students with special educational needs.
Each top student will receive RM1,000 in cash, a plaque and a certificate from MPM as part of the recognition for academic excellence.
