‘Superman’ Stunt Lands Two Riders In Trouble, 14 Motorcycles Seized

Date:

Fourteen motorcycles were seized while two riders were detained for allegedly performing the dangerous ‘Superman’ stunt during an operation targeting illegal street racing activities in Sibu early Saturday morning.

Sibu district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the two riders are being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for allegedly riding recklessly and dangerously.

He said both riders were believed to have performed the ‘Superman’ stunt and engaged in speed trials along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce. Such behaviour, he added, could endanger not only the riders themselves but also other road users.

The remaining 12 motorcycles were seized for investigation under Section 60 of the same Act after they were suspected of being illegally modified. The operation was carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPTD) of the Sibu District Police Headquarters from 10pm on Friday until 3.45am on Saturday.

A total of 19 officers and personnel from the BSPTD, Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) Unit, Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) and Lanang Police Station took part in the operation, which focused on Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce and Jalan Awang Ramli Amit.

Police inspected 27 motorcycles and 31 individuals during the operation, with 72 PDRM (K) 257 summonses issued for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 and traffic regulations.

Among the offences detected were modified exhaust systems, missing side mirrors and registration plates, driving without a licence, non-compliant vehicle structures, faulty brakes, worn tyres and expired motor vehicle licences.

Abang Zainal Abidin said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) takes illegal street racing and dangerous riding activities seriously, adding that enforcement would continue to be intensified to protect the safety of all road users.
