A Telekom Malaysia (TM) worker was left traumatised after discovering the body of a trailer driver whose vehicle had reportedly crashed and plunged into a 20-metre-deep ravine along the Gua Musang-Kota Bharu Highway near Ladang Selasa on Monday.
Mohammad Luqman Faiz Mohd Zailani, 22, said he and two colleagues arrived at the location at around 8am to repair a telecommunications cable fault that had been reported the previous night.
He said they initially did not realise a trailer had gone off the road as the vehicle was located deep at the bottom of the ravine.
“I was trembling and could not speak when I suddenly saw a hand hanging out from the trailer.
“We received the cable damage report through the system at around 8pm on Sunday and came to the location based on the kilometre marker provided,” he said when contacted.
Luqman said the trailer only came into view after the three workers began checking the surrounding area.
“At first, we did not see the trailer. After inspecting the area, we spotted the vehicle and thought there was nobody inside.
“But when we moved closer to check, we were shocked to see a hand hanging out. We immediately contacted the emergency services for help,” he said.
He said the discovery left all three workers frozen in shock as they realised someone had died in the crash.
“We could only stand there quietly. Our hands were shaking because we had never faced a situation like this before,” he said.
Based on information obtained at the scene, the victim was believed to be a man in his 30s from Kedah.
Meanwhile, Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Station operation commander Senior Fire Officer II Nurhidir Kasim said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 9.11am.
He said firefighters who arrived at the scene found the trailer had veered off the highway before plunging approximately 20 metres into the ravine.
“Checks found that the victim was trapped inside the vehicle and was confirmed dead at the scene.
“The body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
