A large-scale enforcement operation conducted by the Selangor State Forestry Department (JPNS) resulted in the detention of 92 individuals at Bukit Pau within the Ulu Gombak Tambahan Forest Reserve on Sunday. The operation, which focused on curbing illegal entry into protected areas, was carried out between 6:00 am and 3:00 pm. Led by Central Selangor District Forest Officer Mohd Hadre Mohamad, the enforcement team consisted of 22 personnel who monitored the popular hiking spot for permit violations.
According to a statement released by JPNS on Sunday evening, the individuals were found participating in recreational climbing activities without a valid permanent forest reserve entry permit, commonly known as Form 6. Investigations revealed that the group was allegedly part of an organised event arranged by a non-governmental organisation (NGO). Despite the scale of the gathering, the organisers had reportedly failed to obtain the necessary prior approval or documentation from the forestry department.
Following the discovery, the organisers along with all participants were detained and escorted to the Taman Melawati Police Station. The department confirmed that a formal police report was lodged to facilitate further internal investigations into the unauthorised assembly. This swift action serves as a reminder that all activities within permanent forest reserves are strictly regulated to preserve the natural environment and ensure the safety of visitors.
The Selangor State Forestry Department has issued a stern advisory to all outdoor enthusiasts and event planners, urging them to be fully aware of the legal requirements for forest entry. Under Section 47 of the National Forestry Act 1985 (Adoption) Enactment, entering a permanent forest reserve without a permit is a punishable offence. The department emphasised that ignorance of these regulations would not be accepted as an excuse, and strict enforcement will continue to be a priority.
By highlighting this mass detention, the authorities hope to educate the public on the importance of following proper administrative channels before venturing into protected green lungs. JPNS reiterated that while it encourages healthy recreational lifestyles, such pursuits must be conducted within the boundaries of the law. Future offenders can expect similar firm action as the department remains committed to protecting the integrity of Selangor’s forest reserves.
