Twelve Hurt as Forestry Lorry Skids into Ravine in Perak

Date:

Twelve people were injured yesterday when a Perak State Forestry Department lorry skidded and plunged into a five-metre ravine at Jalan Gunung Batu Putih–Hutan Lipur Kuala Woh.

According to District Police Chief Superintendent Johari Yahya, the incident occurred at around 2.30pm. The lorry, driven by a man in his 30s, was ferrying 11 passengers, including Forestry Department personnel and mountain guides, returning from installing signboards around Gunung Batu Putih.

“It was raining at the time, and the vehicle lost traction on the narrow and slippery road while descending a hilly stretch. The lorry skidded to the left, spun several times, and fell into a five-metre ravine,” Johari said.

Members of the public and firefighters rushed to the scene to rescue the injured, who were then sent to Tapah Hospital for treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act for careless and inconsiderate driving, which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 and a prison sentence of up to 12 months per charge.

Johari also urged motorists to exercise extra caution, especially during the monsoon season, to prevent similar accidents.
