Two Die In Separate Incidents In Perak, Including Welder Found Inside Water Tank

Date:

Two people were killed in separate incidents in Perak on Tuesday, involving a workplace accident at a MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) in Parit and a drowning in Sungai Kampar near Gopeng.

In the first incident, a 34-year-old man was found dead inside a water tank while carrying out welding work at MRSM Parit.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said firefighters received an emergency call at 3.46pm, with a team from the Parit Fire and Rescue Station arriving at the scene seven minutes later.

The victim, identified as Muhammad Nazrin Yaakob, is believed to have fallen into the water tank while welding a ladder inside the tank.

Firefighters entered the tank and used rescue ropes to bring the victim to the surface. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH). His body was later handed over to the police for further investigation.

In a separate incident earlier that day, a 17-year-old boy drowned after being swept away by strong currents in Sungai Kampar, near a resort at Kebun Pak Wan, Gopeng.

Sabarodzi said JBPM received a distress call at 1.45pm, and members of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) Tronoh, who were conducting training nearby, immediately launched a search operation.

The teenager was found about 10 minutes later, approximately 15 to 20 metres from the spot where he was last seen.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by MOH medical personnel before his body was handed over to the police for further action.
