Wildlife, Forest Crime Crackdown Sees RM56.86 Million In Seizures

Date:

Op Bersepadu Khazanah conducted by the Northern Brigade of the General Operations Force (PGA) has recorded a significant increase this year, with the total value of seizures reaching RM56.86 million as of Aug 4.

Northern Brigade PGA Ulu Kinta commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said the figure represented a sharp rise of 2,404 per cent compared to RM2.27 million recorded during the same period last year.

He said the number of cases investigated under the operation also increased from 17 cases in 2025 to 38 cases this year.

“The increase reflects the effectiveness of intelligence gathering and coordinated enforcement efforts involving various enforcement agencies,” he said during a press conference at the Northern Brigade PGA Headquarters here on Wednesday.

Op Bersepadu Khazanah focuses on protecting natural habitats, conserving wildlife and curbing illegal activities such as forest encroachment and theft of forest resources.

The enforcement operation is carried out in collaboration with agencies including the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) and the Forestry Department.

Meanwhile, Balveer Singh said the overall number of cases recorded by PGA also increased by 33.68 per cent, rising to 389 cases compared to 291 cases last year.

He added that the increase was accompanied by a rise in arrests, with 813 individuals detained this year compared to 672 last year, representing an increase of about 21 per cent.

“Roadblock-related cases also recorded an increase, with 75 cases reported this year compared to only 24 cases last year.

“Cases investigated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) also increased from six cases to 11 cases during the same period,” he said.

Balveer Singh urged members of the public to continue acting as the eyes and ears of enforcement authorities by providing information on any illegal activities.

He said public cooperation was important to ensure swift action could be taken while maintaining public safety and security.
