Young Boxer Found Dismembered Hours After Professional Debut Fight

Date:

A young Colombian boxer was found dead in a gruesome case after his dismembered body was allegedly dumped into a river just hours after competing in his first professional bout.

The victim, Yeiner Andres Gomez Sandoval, 28, was reported missing by his family before parts of his body were discovered floating in the Magdalena River near Barranquilla on Monday.

According to local media reports, the victim’s remains were identified by his mother through several distinctive tattoos, including a snake tattoo on his body, a dragon head tattoo on his shoulder and his younger sibling’s name tattooed on his neck.

Authorities reportedly stated that several body parts have yet to be recovered, while search operations are still ongoing in the area.

Before the tragedy, Yeiner had just made his professional boxing debut during the WBA Future Champions Colombia tournament in Barranquilla.

He reportedly lost the bout by unanimous decision to fellow boxer Leider Galvis in the tournament’s featured fight.

Family members said Yeiner had spent time with his mother and child after the match before he was last seen leaving his home on Sunday afternoon during Colombia’s Mother’s Day celebrations.

His coach, Miguel Angel Guzman, said he was unaware of any threats or personal disputes that could be linked to the brutal killing.

Police are currently investigating the victim’s final movements and possible motives behind the murder, although no official theory has been released so far.

The shocking case has sparked outrage among friends, relatives and members of the boxing community, with many demanding swift justice against those responsible for the killing.
