A young boy was killed while 11 others suffered injuries in a horrific three-vehicle collision along the Segamat-Kuantan Highway early Monday morning.
The tragic accident occurred at around 1.12am and involved a Proton Saga, Perodua Alza and Perodua Axia.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said six firefighters together with a fire engine from the Muadzam Shah Fire and Rescue Station were rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call.
The operation was later assisted by another five firefighters and a fire engine from the Chini Fire and Rescue Station.
According to Zulfadli, the Proton Saga was carrying four victims, including two adult men who became trapped and suffered injuries during the crash.
“A young boy in the vehicle was also injured, while another boy was pronounced dead at the scene after becoming trapped inside the car,” he said in a statement on Monday.
The collision caused chaos at the scene as rescue personnel worked urgently to save trapped victims from the heavily damaged vehicles.
In the Perodua Alza, four victims consisting of one adult man, two adult women and a young girl all sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, the Perodua Axia carried four victims as well, including an adult woman who became trapped inside the vehicle.
Two other adult women and a young boy travelling in the Axia also suffered injuries in the crash.
Firefighters used specialised rescue equipment to extricate victims pinned inside the wreckage before handing them over to medical personnel.
All injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
The body of the deceased child was later handed over to police for further action and investigation.
