JPJ Suspends Online Vehicle Ownership Transfers After Fraud Complaints Surface

Date:

The Road Transport Department Malaysia (JPJ) has announced the temporary suspension of all online vehicle ownership transfer transactions effective immediately.

The suspension affects all digital platforms, including JPJ’s public portal, kiosks, as well as third-party service providers MyEG and eAuto Sdn Bhd.

JPJ director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said the immediate control measure was implemented following several official complaints and viral social media reports involving vehicle ownership transfers carried out without the knowledge of registered owners.

According to him, JPJ views the issue seriously, particularly matters involving the integrity and security of vehicle registration records stored within the department’s system.

“As of today, May 25, all vehicle ownership transfer transactions for private individual and private company categories must be conducted physically at JPJ offices,” he said in a statement.

For private individual transactions, owners can still complete the process on the same day at all state and branch JPJ offices nationwide.

Meanwhile, ownership transfer applications involving private companies will require between five and seven working days for verification and approval once complete documents are submitted.

Aedy Fadly also clarified that under eAuto’s services, only temporary ownership transfer transactions through the Temporary Ownership Transfer System (STMS) will continue operating as usual.

However, permanent ownership transfers via the eSerahan Tukar Milik (eSTM) system have been suspended until further notice.

This means used car companies and other related parties intending to carry out permanent ownership transfers must now submit applications directly at JPJ state or branch offices.

JPJ stressed that it remains committed to continuously strengthening and improving the management and security control of vehicle registration records in order to protect vehicle owners and maintain the integrity of its service delivery system.

The department also advised the public to regularly check and update their latest vehicle information and records with JPJ.
