A total of 92 police reports were received throughout the campaign period for the 16th Negri Sembilan State Election (PRN), with 24 investigation papers opened following various alleged offences.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said most of the reported cases involved minor offences allegedly committed by party supporters or members, including damage to campaign materials.
He said four reports involving allegations of money being offered to voters were also received and remain under investigation for further action.
“The reported offences were mostly minor cases such as vandalism involving banners, flags and posters belonging to contesting parties. So far, there have been no police reports directly involving candidates, and overall, the election process across all 36 state seats has proceeded smoothly, safely and in an orderly manner,” he said.
Mohd Khalid said this after visiting the voting process at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) King George V here on Saturday, accompanied by Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.
He added that all cases were being investigated under the Election Offences Act 1954, Sedition Act 1948 and Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid said police officers had been assigned to Kedah to record a statement from Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to complete investigations before the case is referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers.
He also said 5,500 police officers and personnel had been deployed to ensure security throughout polling day and the post-election period.
A total of 26 hotspot areas identified as having a higher risk of disturbances were placed under special monitoring, while two special teams equipped with body cameras were stationed at each state constituency to continuously monitor the situation.
Mohd Khalid urged political parties and supporters to remain disciplined and comply with the law after the election results are announced.
He said security measures would also be strengthened at strategic locations, including the State Government Office and the palace, to ensure public order and safety are maintained.
A total of 859,760 registered voters, including 7,391 postal voters, were eligible to cast their votes across 36 state constituencies in the election, while 91.06 per cent or 14,995 early voters had already completed their voting responsibility on July 28.
