Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has called on Parti Islam Se-Malaysia to leave Perikatan Nasional (PN), arguing that the party should either contest independently or establish a new political alliance.
In a Facebook post, Tun Faisal said PAS could consider reviving Muafakat Nasional (MN) alongside United Malays National Organisation or explore forming a new coalition involving Parti Wawasan.
According to him, PAS’s recent actions have increasingly affected the stability and public image of PN, making its continued presence within the coalition a growing concern.
“PAS should leave and establish its own coalition because its actions are increasingly impacting the stability and reputation of PN,” he said.
Tun Faisal argued that PAS has become more of a liability than an asset to the coalition, citing what he described as a lack of commitment, delays in decision-making and actions that allegedly undermined PN’s political interests.
He said PN would be in a stronger position heading into the next general election if PAS voluntarily exited the coalition and contested under its own brand and logo.
“To save PN, PAS should leave voluntarily and use its own identity. Only then can PN preserve its brand and better prepare for the coming general election,” he added.
The Bersatu leader also suggested that PN should continue under Bersatu’s leadership together with other component parties, including Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat (IPR), to ensure the coalition’s continuity.
Among the issues raised by Tun Faisal were PAS’s alleged involvement in political discussions outside PN, including the so-called “Bangkok Move”, as well as repeated efforts to revive cooperation with UMNO through Muafakat Nasional.
He also claimed PAS had shown limited commitment to the PN brand by using its own party logo during elections in Kelantan and Terengganu, with similar suggestions reportedly emerging in Johor.
Tun Faisal further referred to rumours that PAS had engaged in discussions with UMNO and might choose not to contest in Johor in exchange for appointed state assembly positions.
“If those rumours are true, it would be more appropriate for PAS to leave PN and join Muafakat Nasional,” he said.
He added that if PAS were indeed pursuing political arrangements outside the coalition, it would be inappropriate for the party to continue holding the chairmanship of PN.
The remarks are likely to fuel further debate over the future direction of the opposition coalition amid ongoing speculation about potential political realignments ahead of the next general election.
