Barisan Nasional (BN) will announce its list of candidates for the Johor state election at least one week before nomination day, in a move aimed at ensuring full preparedness and internal readiness ahead of the polls.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party is also maintaining its WALI framework focusing on candidates who are winnable, likeable and acceptable as the core principle in selecting representatives for the 56 state seats.
He said the finalisation of the full candidate list will be completed as quickly as possible, allowing the party to streamline preparations and address any issues at constituency level before the election campaign begins.
In a broader political context, early candidate announcements are often seen as a strategy to strengthen voter confidence while giving party machinery sufficient time to mobilise support on the ground.
Zahid made the remarks after officiating the monthly assembly of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development at Dewan Seri Lestari in Putrajaya.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Onn Hafiz Ghazi had earlier announced the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on June 1, 2026, with the move taking effect immediately following consent from the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
The dissolution paves the way for the 16th Johor state election, with the Election Commission required to set nomination and polling dates within 60 days.
Onn Hafiz said the decision was made to ensure continued political stability in the state, while also urging all parties to practise mature and responsible politics and avoid spreading false information ahead of the election.
