The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained approval to charge a former minister over a case involving Tabung Haji.
MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman said the politician is expected to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Monday with three counts of dishonest misappropriation of property.
“We have obtained permission from the Attorney-General’s Chambers to charge the former minister,” he said during a press conference.
The charges are expected to be brought under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between six months and five years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
The former minister was previously detained for seven days to assist investigations into the leasing of a Tabung Haji-linked hotel in Saudi Arabia.
The matter was highlighted in the Royal Commission of Inquiry report on the pilgrims fund.
The politician was released two days ago after completing seven days in MACC custody.
