‘He Is Not A Traitor’ – Umno Youth Defends Jalaluddin

Date:

Negri Sembilan Umno Youth has come to the defence of state Umno chairman Jalaluddin Alias, rejecting accusations that he betrayed the state unity government and played a role in triggering the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly.

State Umno Youth chief Mohamad Fadil Md Zin said the allegations were unfounded, insisting that Jalaluddin had consistently defended the unity government and worked to ease tensions whenever disagreements arose within the party.

Speaking at a public ceramah in Danau Kampai, Fadil revealed that frustrations had surfaced shortly after the formation of the unity government in 2023 when Pakatan Harapan (PH) allegedly failed to honour an agreement to allocate the Deputy Speaker position in the State Legislative Assembly to Umno.

According to him, the issue sparked dissatisfaction among Umno members, particularly within the youth wing, which repeatedly raised concerns before the position was eventually awarded to Umno in August 2025.

Fadil said he personally voiced strong objections during the first state liaison committee meeting after the unity government was formed and even suggested that Umno withdraw from the coalition.

However, he said Jalaluddin firmly opposed the proposal and continued to support the unity government.

“If he wanted to betray the party or was obsessed with becoming Menteri Besar, it would have happened in 2023, not now,” Fadil said.

He also revealed that Umno Youth later renewed calls for the party to leave the unity government following controversy involving certain DAP leaders who were seen mocking and celebrating the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Fadil argued that the actions of those leaders deeply offended Umno grassroots members and demonstrated a lack of respect towards a coalition partner.

Despite the growing pressure, he said Jalaluddin once again defended both the unity government and Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.

“Clearly, he is not the traitor some people claim he is,” Fadil stressed.

He insisted that BN’s decision to withdraw support for Aminuddin was not politically motivated but stemmed from dissatisfaction over the Menteri Besar’s handling of a controversy involving Negri Sembilan’s Adat Perpatih customary system.

According to Fadil, the issue escalated significantly and became a major topic of debate on social media, fuelling public dissatisfaction.

The political crisis intensified on April 27 when 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen announced they were withdrawing support for Aminuddin, citing concerns over the management of issues related to the state’s traditional customs and constitutional framework.

Although top leaders from both PH and BN later declared the matter resolved, tensions continued after BN lawmakers maintained their position of not supporting Aminuddin while remaining part of the state unity government.

Earlier this month, Aminuddin announced the dissolution of the Negri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, paving the way for a fresh state election.

Since then, leaders from both coalitions have traded accusations, with claims of betrayal and political manoeuvring dominating the campaign narrative ahead of the polls.

Fadil said Umno intends to use the election campaign to explain the party’s position and clarify what actually transpired, arguing that many voters have only been exposed to information circulating on social media.
