Johor DAP has reaffirmed its full support for DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke to continue leading the party despite Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) defeat in the Negeri Sembilan state election.
Its chairman, Teo Nie Ching, said Anthony’s leadership throughout the election campaign demonstrated courage, responsibility and a willingness to shoulder the party’s responsibilities during one of its most challenging periods.
“Johor DAP fully supports Anthony Loke in continuing to lead the party.
“We will stand firmly with DAP Negeri Sembilan and work closely with the Central Executive Committee to ensure the party returns stronger, more united and regains the people’s confidence ahead of the next general election,” she said in a statement on Sunday.
Her remarks came after reports that Anthony was considering stepping down as Negeri Sembilan DAP chairman, taking responsibility for the party’s performance in the state election.
Teo, who is also the Kulai MP and Deputy Communications Minister, revealed that she herself had wanted to resign as Johor DAP chairman on July 11, but was persuaded by Anthony to remain in the position.
She added that Johor DAP respects the decision made by the people of Negeri Sembilan and views the election outcome as a clear message from voters that must be accepted responsibly.
“Although the results were not in favour of DAP and Pakatan Harapan, our struggle does not end here,” she said.
In the Negeri Sembilan election, Pakatan Harapan lost control of the state government after being defeated by the Barisan Nasional (BN)-Perikatan Nasional (PN) alliance.
The election also saw Anthony Loke lose the Chennah state seat, which he had previously held.
