Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to announce several urgent changes to be undertaken by the government from the end of this month, with further measures to be consolidated during the tabling of Budget 2027 in October.
Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said the announcements would cover several areas, including government policies, internal PH matters, cooperation within the Unity Government and national programmes.
He said he would respond to issues raised during the PKR National Congress and outline what could be done in terms of policy and governance after listening to the debates over the two-day gathering.
Anwar also said he planned to share his views ahead of National Day on Aug 31, as well as Malaysia Day on Sept 16, which will be celebrated in Kuching, Sarawak.
He said the government would subsequently identify and consolidate several urgent changes that needed to be implemented through Budget 2027, which is scheduled to be tabled in October.
“I have these three occasions and, God willing, we will make the best use of them,” he said in his presidential policy speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITC) today.
The Prime Minister, who is also Finance Minister, acknowledged that some government policies had not been effectively translated to the public, stressing that the issue was not necessarily due to weaknesses in the policies themselves.
He said shortcomings in communication by the leadership could prevent the public from fully understanding the government’s achievements and direction, even when economic indicators showed positive results.
Anwar noted that the country’s economic performance remained encouraging, with various indicators showing strong results, including a Bank Negara Malaysia projection of growth of up to six per cent for the current quarter.
However, he said strong economic figures alone would not be enough to win public confidence if the government failed to communicate its policies and achievements effectively.
Meanwhile, Anwar stressed that Sabah and Sarawak had never been sidelined under his administration, adding that the government also remained committed to development in states governed by the Opposition.
He said the demands and interests of Sabah and Sarawak were no longer viewed as secondary matters but had been incorporated into the national agenda.
Anwar said both states must remain an integral part of the country’s development and nation-building efforts, stressing that the government’s broader objective was to ensure all regions progressed together.
