No DUN Dissolution As Negeri Sembilan Crisis Continues, Says PM

Date:

Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has clarified that there is currently no plan to dissolve the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly (DUN), despite the withdrawal of support by 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen from Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.

Speaking to reporters, Anwar said the decision was made in line with advice from the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, who has instructed that the state administration should continue operating as usual while legal processes take their course. He stressed that, for now, the focus remains on maintaining stability and ensuring governance is not disrupted.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of allowing space for all parties involved to engage in proper discussions before any major decisions are made. He noted that matters concerning the appointment or removal of a Menteri Besar are not straightforward, as they involve the state’s unique constitutional framework, including the role of the Undang.

Anwar explained that decisions related to leadership changes must follow established legal procedures under Negeri Sembilan’s system, emphasising that it cannot be handled hastily. He added that rushing into conclusions could risk creating further political instability in the state.

In the meantime, he reiterated the need to respect the royal institution and handle the situation with care and wisdom. According to him, safeguarding the dignity of the monarchy remains a priority, especially when dealing with constitutional matters.

He concluded by affirming that Aminuddin will continue to carry out his responsibilities as Menteri Besar, in accordance with the royal decree, until all constitutional issues surrounding the state’s political situation are properly resolved.
