PM Anwar Tells Negeri Sembilan MB To Continue Duties Amid Political Turmoil

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to continue carrying out his duties as usual, despite claims by Barisan Nasional (BN) that it now holds a simple majority to form a new state government with support from Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Anwar said Aminuddin should proceed with his responsibilities in line with the directive of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

“For now, based on Tuanku’s instruction, the state government should continue to function as usual until there is a need for any change,” he told reporters.

He added that the legal and constitutional processes should be allowed to take their course without interference.

The political situation in Negeri Sembilan escalated after all 14 BN state assemblymen announced they had withdrawn support for Aminuddin, triggering uncertainty over the stability of the state administration.

Despite this, Aminuddin has maintained that he will continue to lead the state government as a minority administration.

Meanwhile, UMNO and BN leaders in the state have claimed they now possess sufficient numbers, along with five PN assemblymen, to establish a new government.

Anwar, who is also chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH), stressed that the current moment is not appropriate for political manoeuvring or power struggles.

He said all parties should prioritise national harmony, particularly as the country faces ongoing economic challenges.

“It is not fair to make rushed decisions that could create political instability in Negeri Sembilan,” he said.

Anwar added that any further developments should be left to the state’s royal institution and traditional authorities to decide.

“The priority now is to safeguard the interests of the state, respect the monarchy and maintain stability. This is not the time for political infighting,” he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister attended a “Temu Anwar” programme and officiated the opening of a new campus building at UCSI University.
