Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has taken a light-hearted jab at the ongoing political turmoil in the state, joking that it was UMNO that “divorced” him, likening the situation to a “triple talaq”.
Speaking to the media, Aminuddin made the remark when asked about cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN), after all 14 of its state assemblymen unanimously declared a loss of confidence and withdrew their support for his leadership. The unexpected move has intensified political uncertainty, highlighting the fragile nature of alliances within state governance.
Despite admitting he was taken aback by the development, Aminuddin said he is accepting the situation with an open heart, noting that such political shifts are part and parcel of leadership challenges.
“I can still smile, and God willing, I can sleep well. We leave everything to Allah SWT. Everything that happens has a reason and has been arranged by Him,” he said during a press conference at the Menteri Besar’s official residence on Monday.
He added that he is prepared to accept any decision moving forward, stressing that he remains calm and composed amid the unfolding crisis. “Whatever comes next, I will accept it. No problem, I can still sleep. I’m even feeling hungry,” he remarked.
Aminuddin also shared that his family is coping well with the situation, although they were initially shocked. “Alhamdulillah, they have accepted it, even though they were surprised at first,” he said, reflecting a sense of personal resilience during political uncertainty.
Also present at the press conference were DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke and Negeri Sembilan Amanah chairman Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman, signalling continued backing from Pakatan Harapan (PH) allies at the state level.
Aminuddin emphasised that he will continue focusing on his duties in administering the state, leaving any further decisions to the top leadership of PH. The situation, he noted, underscores the importance of steady governance even during periods of political instability.
“At the end of the day, there is leadership at the top level. I leave it to them. At the state level, I will continue carrying out my responsibilities as usual,” he said.
He assured that the state administration remains functional and capable of governing effectively. “Reports will continue to be made to the state government. We are in a suitable position to govern. God willing, I will work even harder,” he added.
