UMNO has taken a position to respect the Barisan Nasional (BN) State Assembly members in Negeri Sembilan who have expressed continued loss of confidence in Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, while still maintaining support for the state’s Unity Government.
The matter was discussed during the UMNO Political Bureau meeting held on 29 April 2026, reflecting growing attention within the party over the developing political situation in the state.
UMNO Secretary-General Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party had received a detailed briefing from the Negeri Sembilan UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman regarding the issue. He added that the decision by the ADUNs was driven by concerns that the Menteri Besar had allegedly sidelined the state’s Adat Institution and the Negeri Sembilan Constitution.
He further noted that UMNO is taking seriously recent developments involving tensions between the state’s royal institution and adat structure, which have sparked misunderstandings among coalition members within the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan. The situation has raised concerns over political stability and institutional harmony in the state.
Among the resolutions discussed, UMNO stressed the need for an urgent meeting between its Political Bureau and that of Pakatan Harapan. The aim is to address key disputes and clarify matters involving each party’s core principles, in line with Clause 5(c) of the Unity Government Memorandum of Understanding, which requires disagreements to be resolved through consultation.
Previously, all 14 BN State Assembly members in Negeri Sembilan had unanimously declared a loss of confidence in the leadership of Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. BN Negeri Sembilan chairman Jalaluddin Alias said the decision was made following a crisis involving adat institutions and the state constitution.
UMNO reiterated its commitment to upholding its constitutional principles, particularly Clause 3.1, which emphasises the defence of the Malay Rulers as the cornerstone of national sovereignty, amid ongoing efforts to stabilise the political landscape in Negeri Sembilan.
