National weightlifter Muhammad Hafizuddin Roslin delivered Malaysia’s fourth gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after winning the men’s 88kg event at the SEC Armadillo, Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old from Perlis enjoyed a memorable Commonwealth Games debut, lifting a combined total of 345kg to claim the gold medal. His winning performance included 162kg in the snatch and 183kg in the clean and jerk, with both lifts setting new Games records.
Hafizuddin finished ahead of Cameron David McTaggart of New Zealand, who took silver with a total lift of 338kg, while Scotland’s Angus Doig claimed the bronze medal with 309kg.
The victory continues Malaysia’s dominance in weightlifting, with the sport accounting for all four of the country’s gold medals at the Glasgow Games so far.
Malaysia has also won one bronze medal in weightlifting through Irene Jane Henry in the women’s 48kg category.
Earlier, Mohamad Aniq Kasdan captured gold in the men’s 60kg event, followed by Muhamad Aznil Bidin in the men’s 65kg category and Muhammad Erry Hidayat in the men’s 79kg event.
Hafizuddin’s triumph further boosts Malaysia’s medal tally as the national contingent continues its campaign with several more medal prospects still in action.
