Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani stormed into the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open after a straight-sets victory over England’s Ben Lane–Sean Vendy.
In a broader context, Malaysia’s professional badminton pairs continue to show strong competitiveness on the international circuit, particularly in high-tier tournaments such as the Super 1000 series.
In their second-round match at Istora Senayan in Jakarta today, the former world No.1 pair needed just 31 minutes to secure a comfortable 21-11, 21-13 win.
The seventh-seeded duo, nicknamed “DinFei”, had previously lost both of their encounters against the European pair, including at the Malaysia Open in January.
The victory marked their first win over the world No.11 pair in three meetings.
They will next face either compatriots Aaron Tai–Kang Khai Xing or India’s Hariharan Amsakarunan–M.R. Arjun in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, national women’s singles player K. Letshanaa exited the tournament in the second round after a straight-sets defeat to three-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.
Professional mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron–Lai Pei Jing were also eliminated after a close 14-21, 22-24 loss to Thailand’s second-seeded duo Dechapol Puavaranukroh–Supissara Paewsampran.
