Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin March Into Indonesia Open Semi-Finals

Date:

National men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani emerged as Malaysia’s only remaining representatives at the Indonesia Open 2026 after booking their place in the semi-finals with a convincing victory in Jakarta on Friday.

Competing at Istora Senayan, the world No. 8 duo produced a dominant display to defeat India’s Hariharan Amsakarunan and M.R. Arjun in straight sets, winning 21-12, 21-10 in the quarter-finals.

The win marked the first meeting between the Malaysian pair and the world No. 30 Indians, with Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin comfortably controlling the match from start to finish.

The Malaysians will now face either top seeds Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea or Taiwan’s Lee Fang-Chih and Lee Fang-Jen for a place in the final.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s challenge in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles events came to an end at the prestigious tournament.

Women’s doubles stars Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah were unable to secure a third consecutive win over Japan’s Rui Hirokami and Sayaka Hobara, falling 20-22, 16-21 in the quarter-finals. The defeat ended their unbeaten record against the Japanese pair after previous victories at the China Open and Thailand Open last year.

In the mixed doubles event, husband-and-wife duo Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai were also eliminated despite taking the opening set against France’s Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue. The Malaysians eventually lost 21-15, 18-21, 20-22 after a gruelling 70-minute encounter.

With the latest results, Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin now carry Malaysia’s hopes of securing a title at the Indonesia Open 2026.
