Cause of Death of Prison Warden Found in Flooded Home Still Unknown

Date:

The exact cause of death of a 26-year-old prison warden whose body was found in his flood-hit home in Taman Sri Inderapura here yesterday has yet to be determined, pending laboratory analysis.

Kuantan police chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah said a post-mortem was conducted at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital at about 2pm yesterday, but no conclusive findings have been made so far.

“The deceased’s blood and organ tissue samples have been sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis. We are awaiting the laboratory results,” he told the New Straits Times today.

Asked whether the deceased, Muhammad Hariri Kamarudin, may have been electrocuted while wading through floodwaters in the living room of his house, Ashari said the post-mortem was unable to confirm such a possibility.

Hariri’s body was discovered by his father at around 10am yesterday, lying face down in floodwaters inside the house after he failed to return to the SMK Chong Hwa temporary relief centre.

Hariri, who was attached to Penor Prison in Kuantan, had been staying at the relief centre since Oct 17. He returned home at about 1am yesterday to check on flood conditions before the incident occurred.

The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, have extended their condolences to Hariri’s family.

In a message shared on the Kesultanan Pahang Facebook page, Their Royal Highnesses prayed for Hariri’s soul to be placed among the righteous and for his family to be granted strength during their time of grief.

Malaysia is currently experiencing heavy rainfall brought on by the second wave of the Northeast Monsoon, which has worsened flooding across several states. Pahang remains the worst-hit, with 13,466 flood victims recorded.

As of 9am today, a total of 4,435 families have been relocated to 81 temporary relief centres across six districts — Kuantan, Maran, Pekan, Jerantut, Rompin and Lipis — with Kuantan accounting for 11,115 evacuees.
