Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) is set to deploy 25 solar-powered mobile CCTV units to strengthen enforcement against illegal dumping at identified hotspot areas.
According to Johor Bahru Mayor Datuk Mohd Hafiz Ahmad, the units, provided by the Ministry of Digital, will be gradually placed in high-risk locations to supplement MBJB’s two existing CCTV cameras.
“These mobile CCTV units are also equipped with loudspeakers to issue real-time warnings to individuals caught committing offenses, helping to prevent illegal dumping before it occurs,” he said.
Mohd Hafiz noted that previous use of CCTV has proven effective in reducing illegal dumping in several areas. The mayor made the announcement during the MBJB full council meeting at Menara MBJB on Tuesday.
He added that footage from the cameras will be shared with SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Corp) to assist in enforcement, particularly in issuing fines in accordance with existing laws.
In a separate update, Mohd Hafiz confirmed that MBJB will not issue licenses to any premises selling electronic cigarettes (vapes). “Any business found operating illegally will face closure,” he said.
