Six cleanup operations and three court actions have failed to change the behaviour of a premises occupant in Taman Bersatu, Simpang Pulai, prompting the Ipoh City Council (MBI) to once again carry out an integrated nuisance eradication operation on Thursday.
The premises owner, a 69-year-old elderly woman, was found to have continued accumulating and storing recyclable materials in an uncontrolled manner within the compound of her single-storey terrace house.
Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Zamakhshari Mohd Saleh, said the situation not only caused environmental nuisance but also posed a risk of becoming a breeding ground for disease-carrying vectors such as mosquitoes, cockroaches, and rats, which could threaten the health of nearby residents.
According to MBI records, since 2016, six cleanup operations have been conducted at the premises, and the owner has faced three court actions involving fines and court orders. However, all enforcement measures failed to prevent her from repeating the same behaviour.
In the latest operation, five seven-tonne lorries and an excavator were deployed, involving 27 sanitation personnel. Various items, including plastic, paper, metal, and wood, were completely removed. The operation was completed within three hours without any untoward incidents.
Zamakhshari stressed that MBI would not compromise with any party that continues to disregard instructions and pose risks to public health and environmental safety.
“This enforcement action is carried out in the interest of the community,” he said.
The integrated operation also involved cooperation from the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Zamakhshari added that the involvement of relevant government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) is welcomed to formulate a holistic long-term solution to prevent similar issues from recurring in the future.
“MBI remains committed to safeguarding the well-being and quality of life of Ipoh residents through consistent and continuous law enforcement,” he said.
