10-Year-Old Girl Invests Ang Pow Money In Gold Since 2023, Now Holds 30g

Date:

While many children spend their red packet money on toys and sweets, a 10-year-old girl in China has taken a markedly different approach — investing her ang pow savings in gold.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the girl has been converting her annual red packet collection into gold since 2023, believing the precious metal is more secure than cash, which can be easily spent.

Her mother, identified as Bai, said the child receives about US$580 (approximately RM2,260) each year during Chinese New Year. Rather than leaving the money idle, she opted to purchase gold when prices were around US$66 (about RM257) per gram in 2023.

Since then, she has accumulated roughly 30 grams of gold and has not sold any of her holdings. Bai revealed that her daughter plans to continue using future ang pow money to expand her collection.

The unusual investment strategy quickly captured attention online, with social media users hailing the girl as a “genius” and a “blessed investor”. Some even jokingly referred to her as “the girl who travels back in time”, praising what they described as impeccable timing.

When asked about her daughter’s next potential move, Bai responded in jest: “Let me ask my daughter if she can predict the next gold rush.”

She also admitted that her daughter may possess sharper financial instincts than her, expressing regret for not buying gold earlier when prices were lower.

One online commenter summed up the prevailing sentiment: “I can already see a future successful businesswoman in this girl.”
