A seven-year-old boy is now reliant on a wheelchair after suffering severe nerve damage to his right leg following a road incident in Jerantut, Pahang, on March 23.
The child, identified as Muhammad Daiyyan Syahid Roslan, sustained serious injuries from the knee down to his toes after being struck by a vehicle while playing near his grandmother’s house during the third day of Aidilfitri celebrations.
His elder sister, Nur Ain Natasya Roslan, said the incident occurred while other family members were nearby. She recalled hearing loud screams before rushing downstairs and seeing her brother being carried into the house.
She said the vehicle involved was a Proton Waja, allegedly driven at speed before hitting the child. According to the family, the car was privately owned but reportedly driven by a police officer who was off duty and in plain clothes at the time.
Nur Ain said only one of the four occupants in the vehicle has since apologised, while the family is still awaiting further updates from the authorities regarding the investigation.
Medical reports indicate that the child has undergone surgery to remove complications and repair damaged nerves. Doctors confirmed that while there were no broken bones, the right leg has suffered approximately 50 per cent nerve damage, which cannot be fully restored.
The family said the recovery process is expected to take up to two years, with ongoing rehabilitation required. The emotional and financial strain has also been significant as the child adapts to life using a wheelchair.
They added that legal counsel has been engaged and the family is currently gathering evidence for possible further action, as the case remains under review.
