A 53-year-old man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today with 13 counts of allegedly using other individuals’ identity card numbers to purchase subsidised petrol between March and April this year.
The accused, Azman Aziz from Perak, pleaded not guilty and requested for trial after all charges were read before Magistrate Rohaida Ishak.
He is alleged to have impersonated three individuals aged 23, 25, and 57 by using their identity card numbers to obtain subsidised petrol quotas under the Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) scheme.
The offences reportedly involved a total of 594.459 litres of petrol quota, causing the three victims to lose their monthly subsidy entitlements.
The offences were said to have taken place at BH Petrol Padang Lengkuas between March 18 and April 24.
He is charged under Section 416 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Nadia Jamal, while the accused was represented by Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK) lawyer Masniah Dolah.
The court set bail at RM15,000 for all charges and fixed July 8 for mention of the case.
The accused subsequently paid bail at the court complex.
