Aminuddin Harun has not ruled out the possibility of Negeri Sembilan holding its state election this year, saying the decision will depend on current circumstances and political suitability.
Speaking at a press conference after chairing the state executive council meeting at Wisma Negeri on Wednesday, the Menteri Besar said the timing of the state election remains under consideration.
“We will see the situation. I also feel the general election is getting closer. I do not rule out the possibility of a state election this year, or perhaps next year,” he said.
Aminuddin, who is also the Negeri Sembilan chairman of Pakatan Harapan, added that the state government would also consider developments involving neighbouring states such as Melaka and Johor, whose state assemblies are expected to be dissolved earlier.
He did not dismiss the possibility of Negeri Sembilan holding its state election simultaneously with those two states.
“We will look at the suitability and timing of elections in neighbouring states. Perhaps we may hold them together, and that is among the matters we will consider,” he explained.
When asked whether Pakatan Harapan in Negeri Sembilan planned to contest independently in the upcoming election, Aminuddin said the matter would ultimately be decided by the party’s central leadership.
However, he admitted there have been many views within the party encouraging them to contest solo.
“At the state level, we must accept whatever decision is made at the federal level after discussions and negotiations for the benefit of everyone,” he said.
Aminuddin also acknowledged the unpredictable nature of politics, noting that political alliances can change over time.
“In politics, things can change. Today we are friends, tomorrow we may no longer be,” he added.
