Malaysian Duo Stun World No. 7 To Reach Singapore Open Quarter-Finals

Date:

Rising Malaysian men’s doubles pair Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing continued their impressive giant-killing run at the Singapore Open after stunning world No. 7 Indonesians Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

The world No. 27 duo booked their place in the quarter-finals with a straight-sets 21-19, 21-17 victory in just 37 minutes at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

It marks another major upset for the Malaysian pair, who had earlier knocked out their higher-ranked compatriots Nur Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong in the opening round.

Their fearless run has made them one of the standout stories of the tournament so far, as they continue to overcome more experienced and higher-ranked opponents.

Aaron and Khai Xing will next face either India’s Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy or Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan in the last eight.
