Man Admits Using Drug-Laced Vape After Viral Crash Incident

Date:

A 24-year-old man whose behaviour went viral after he was seen appearing dazed and allegedly intoxicated following a road accident earlier this month has admitted to using a vape believed to be mixed with drugs.

Sabah police revealed that the suspect, from Kota Marudu, made the confession after initial investigations were carried out by the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN).

Acting Sabah deputy police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azhar Hamin said police first traced the man after the video circulated widely on social media, prompting further checks.

In a broader context, authorities have repeatedly warned that drug-laced vaping products pose serious risks, particularly among young users, and are increasingly difficult to detect through standard screening methods.

He said the suspect’s mother, who runs a business in the district, was also located as part of the investigation process.

Initial urine screening conducted by JSJN Kota Marudu returned a negative result for drug abuse.

However, follow-up interviews led the man to admit that he had used a vape containing a mixture of drugs before the accident.

He also claimed that the vape liquid was purchased from an individual in the Tanjung Aru area.

Following the confession, information on the suspected seller has been passed to JSJN Kota Kinabalu for further investigation.

Police said investigations are ongoing to identify those involved in the distribution of the drug-laced vape products, while public concern continues to grow over the spread of such substances.

The video of the accident victim had previously sparked widespread speculation online after showing him behaving incoherently at the scene.
