An eight-year-old girl has died while her 10-year-old brother is in critical condition after both were believed to have fallen from a residential apartment block in Tampoi earlier today.
The incident occurred at about 7.59am when the siblings were reportedly found at the lower level of the apartment complex near the swimming pool area after falling from an upper floor.
The girl was pronounced dead while being rushed to hospital due to severe injuries sustained in the fall, according to initial reports.
Her older brother was later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital Sultanah Aminah and is currently receiving treatment.
Johor Bahru Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha confirmed the incident but did not provide further details, saying a full statement is expected soon.
Residents at the scene described hearing loud impact sounds shortly before the children were discovered, prompting panic among those nearby.
Some witnesses said the girl was found motionless before emergency services were called, followed moments later by the discovery of the boy in a badly injured state.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy as the community awaits further updates.
