DAP has named Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani, 38, as its candidate for the Ulu Tiram state seat in the upcoming Johor state election, marking a notable move by the party in its candidate selection strategy.
The announcement was made by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke during a political event held in Plentong on Saturday, where the candidate was introduced to party supporters and attendees.
Known by the nickname Lily, Nor Zulaila is currently serving as a Kajang Municipal Council councillor, a position she has held since 2018, and brings with her over 12 years of experience in public service, community development and government administration.
A native of Lenga in Muar, she has previously served in several political support roles, including as special officer to the Bangi MP, Semenyih state constituency coordinator, and assistant to the Serdang MP.
She is now serving as a private secretary to the Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, who is also the Deputy Finance Minister, further strengthening her exposure to federal-level administration.
Her appointment is seen as part of DAP’s broader effort to field candidates with administrative experience and grassroots engagement in the Johor election campaign.
