A suspected diesel subsidy diversion activity operating from a warehouse in Jalan Kobusak, Penampang, was dismantled after a joint raid by the Marine Police Force (PPM) Region 4 Sabah and the Penampang District Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
The operation, conducted at about 2.30pm under Op Tiris 4.0, led to the arrest of a 35-year-old local man believed to be involved in the illegal fuel distribution network.
PPM Region 4 Sabah Commander Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said the raid uncovered a four-wheel drive vehicle, 2,775 litres of subsidised diesel, and several Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tanks believed to be used for fuel storage and transfer.
Authorities also seized various equipment suspected to be part of the syndicate’s operations, which are believed to have been used to facilitate the diversion of controlled fuel supplies.
He said the total value of the seizure was estimated at RM158,826.75, reflecting the scale of the illegal activity uncovered during the enforcement action.
Ahmad Amri added that the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961. He noted that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb misuse of government-subsidised goods, which are intended to benefit the public.
Strong enforcement actions will continue as authorities intensify monitoring against syndicates exploiting controlled items for profit. In recent months, enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in fuel smuggling and subsidy manipulation.
He also revealed that from January until June 24, PPM Region 4 Sabah recorded 81 cases under the Supply Control Act 1961, with total seizures amounting to RM22.79 million, while 75 individuals were detained over various related offences.
Members of the public are urged to continue providing information to authorities, as community cooperation remains crucial in dismantling syndicates that threaten national resources and public welfare.
