In a shocking case that has rocked the nation, the High Court today slammed the door on any leniency for a heartless former company executive who preyed on a vulnerable 14-year-old girl.
Justice Hazlina Hussain upheld the full 10-year prison sentence slapped on Ooi Vin Shen, 29, for statutory rape, along with a one-year term for extortion. Both sentences will run concurrently, and the monster will also be whipped twice.
The judge praised the sessions court for getting it right, describing the teenage victim as a “credible witness” who gave harrowing, detailed evidence in court. Her testimony was backed by medical reports from two doctors who examined her.
Ooi’s twisted blackmail pushed the devastated girl to the brink of suicide after he demanded RM2,300 and threatened to spread her nude photos online if she didn’t pay up.
According to court facts, the sleazy executive met the underage girl on a dating app in 2023. After a few dates, he raped her. But that wasn’t enough for Ooi — he snapped explicit photos of the terrified teen and used them to terrorise her.
He then forced the 14-year-old to sell her body to other men just to scrape together the cash he demanded.
Justice Hazlina made it crystal clear there was no mistake in the original conviction under Sections 376(1) and 384 of the Penal Code.
Lawyer Ho Cheng En represented Ooi, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Tengku Najiha Tengku Zahari prosecuted the case.
A 10-year sentence and the cane — justice served for a predator who destroyed a young girl’s life.
