A woman was left frightened after a stranger allegedly attempted to open the boot of her car while she was dropping off her son at a music class in Taman Melawati.
In a post shared on Threads, user @nanie_abdullah2 said she initially assumed her son had opened the boot to retrieve something from the vehicle.
However, she soon realised it was a man she did not recognise trying to access the boot.
“I had just sent my son to his music class when I felt someone trying to open the car boot. At first, I thought it was my son taking something, but it wasn’t him,” she wrote.
“When I looked, I saw a foreign man attempting to open the boot. I asked him what he was doing, but he did not seem to understand Malay,” she added.
The woman said she was fortunate that a passer-by noticed the situation, stepped in to chase the man away and quickly closed the car boot.
Her post has since sparked concern online, with many social media users urging motorists, particularly women, to stay vigilant and keep their vehicle doors locked whenever they are inside the car.
Several users also advised drivers to avoid confronting suspicious individuals directly. Instead, they recommended sounding the car horn to attract attention and waiting for help if faced with a similar situation.
Others suggested installing tinted windows and making it a habit to lock vehicle doors immediately as additional safety precautions.
