Malaysia Seizes Container Suspected Of Exporting Goods To Israel

Date:

A container believed to be carrying commercial goods for export to Israel has been seized at Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Gelang Patah on Friday.

The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said the shipment was suspected of breaching Item 15 of the Second Schedule under the Customs (Prohibition of Exports) Order 2023, which prohibits the direct or indirect export of goods to Israel in line with Malaysia’s policy and government directives.

In a statement issued on Saturday, AKPS said further investigations would be conducted together with relevant authorities and agencies to establish the nature, specifications, intended use and classification of the goods found in the container.

“The investigation will also determine whether the goods are strategic items subject to control under the Strategic Trade Act 2010 [Act 708] and its related subsidiary legislation,” it said.

The agency stressed that Malaysia would take a firm stance against any attempt to breach the country’s policies, restrictions and laws relating to Israel.

AKPS said any effort to export goods to Israel, either directly or indirectly, in violation of existing laws and government regulations would be met with strict enforcement action.

The seizure highlights the authorities’ continued efforts to ensure that commercial shipments comply with Malaysia’s export restrictions and national policies.

AKPS also said cooperation with relevant enforcement agencies would continue throughout the investigation to determine whether further action is required based on the findings.
