Air quality in 11 areas across Malaysia reached unhealthy levels as of 9am today, with Sarawak recording the highest number of affected locations.
Data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed Samarahan recording the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 183, followed by Serian at 182 and Kuching at 176.
Sarikei and Sri Aman each recorded an API reading of 158, while Mukah and Sibu registered readings of 152.
In Peninsular Malaysia, four areas also recorded unhealthy air quality. Johan Setia in Selangor recorded an API reading of 154, followed by Kuala Lumpur at 131, Putrajaya at 104 and Shah Alam at 101.
Meanwhile, 55 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality, with API readings ranging between 51 and 100. Two other locations recorded good air quality, with readings below 50.
Under the API classification, readings from 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, while readings between 51 and 100 are considered moderate. Levels from 101 to 200 are classified as unhealthy.
Readings between 201 and 300 are categorised as very unhealthy, while API readings exceeding 300 are considered hazardous.
The API is updated hourly based on data collected from 68 air quality monitoring stations located nationwide.
