Malaysian rapper Kidd Santhe, 26, has urged the public to exercise caution when sharing opinions online about the controversial case involving a dog named Rocky.
He said social media users were not present when the incident happened and could therefore only form their views based on short video clips circulating online.
“I hope people will stop attacking any party because, as observers, we do not know the full story and are merely judging based on snippets recorded on mobile phones.
“What we see on social media may be different from what actually happened. So, before commenting, make sure you investigate and understand the situation first,” he told Utusan Malaysia.
Kidd, whose real name is Parssanth Navaratnam, was commenting on allegedly racist remarks made by some social media users in connection with Rocky, who was reportedly killed after becoming entangled in a snare recently.
He also expressed concern over the emergence of fake social media accounts which he claimed were being used to further fuel public anger.
“There are now too many social media accounts without profile pictures or followers, yet these accounts are actively provoking people, especially when it comes to controversial issues.
“As Malaysians, we need to address this problem,” he said.
Kidd also hoped the controversy would not damage racial harmony and tolerance in the country.
“We will face many challenges in building a peaceful and harmonious society.
“Although we come from different religions and ethnic backgrounds, we are all Malaysians. So, we should not allow an issue such as Rocky’s case to divide us,” he said.
