A Malaysian teacher was left stunned and in tears after a Year Two pupil allegedly threw a book at her, striking her face and eye, when she politely asked the class to submit their books.
Sharing her experience on Threads, the teacher described the incident as one of her lowest moments in the profession, saying she was deeply disappointed by what had happened.
In her post, she explained that she had simply asked her pupils to hand in their books when a child seated at the back of the classroom allegedly hurled one towards her.
“I asked the students nicely to hand in their books, but one pupil threw a book from their seat at the very back. It hit me right in the face and eye. I’m so disappointed,” she wrote in Malay.
When a commenter asked which year the pupil was in, she clarified that the child was in Year Two.
The teacher later admitted that she was too shocked to react angrily and could only stand there in disbelief as tears streamed down her face.
Responding to a commenter who said they tended to cry when angry, she said she had experienced the same reaction.
“That was how it was earlier. I couldn’t get angry. I was speechless. The tears just kept flowing. Pray that I stay strong,” she wrote.
Another commenter shared how they had reacted when a pupil once threw a book in front of their face.
However, the teacher said retaliating in the same manner had never crossed her mind, as her immediate concern was the condition of her eye and cheek.
Fortunately, a discipline teacher happened to walk past the classroom, allowing her to refer the incident to them immediately.
She also confirmed that she had contacted the pupil’s mother by text message straight after the incident.
In response to another commenter who urged her to notify the school counsellor and senior assistant for student affairs, she said she had already informed them.
However, the screenshots of her account did not reveal what disciplinary action, if any, was subsequently taken or how the pupil’s mother responded.
Her post drew an outpouring of concern, with several netizens urging her to escalate the matter to the school administration and the pupil’s parents.
Others encouraged her to be firmer in addressing misconduct, while one commenter reminded her that teachers were human beings with feelings and should not be expected to tolerate everything.
Another advised her to establish clear boundaries and correct pupils whenever they misbehaved.
Amid the messages of support, the teacher ended with a heartfelt request for netizens to pray that she would remain strong.
