APAD Cancels Lorry Company License After Crash Kills Baby At Bukit Kajang Toll

Date:

The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has immediately revoked the operating license of a lorry company involved in a fatal accident at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza last Saturday, which claimed the life of a baby.

In a statement today, APAD confirmed that following the cancellation of LDT Metal Trading’s operator license, the company is no longer permitted to operate or provide services with any vehicle registered under that license.

“APAD takes seriously the incident involving a scrap-laden lorry that collided with four other vehicles, killing a baby and injuring seven others. Investigations found that LDT Metal Trading failed to ensure the installation of a Global Positioning System (GPS) on its licensed commercial vehicles and neglected road safety responsibilities,” the statement read.

The agency said the license revocation, effective October 2, was carried out under Section 62 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715).

The accident, which occurred at about 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, was believed to have been caused by brake failure. A 12-month-old baby boy was killed while seven others were injured. The 42-year-old lorry driver admitted he jumped out of the vehicle before the tragic crash.

The collision involved a three-tonne lorry carrying scrap materials, a Nissan X-Trail four-wheel drive belonging to the Public Works Department (JKR), a Honda City, and a Proton X70.

APAD reminded all licensed operators to comply strictly with license conditions to avoid license cancellation.

“APAD will not compromise on dangerous driving offenses involving public transport vehicles that threaten road safety. We remain committed to building a holistic, efficient, safe, and competitive land transport ecosystem in line with Malaysia MADANI’s core values of Well-being and Compassion,” the agency said.
