Police have arrested a man who went viral after allegedly committing a sexual offence involving indecent behaviour inside a supermarket where a woman was working in Gerik.
Gerik District Police Chief, Superintendent Abdul Samad Othman, said authorities received a report from the 25-year-old victim at 5.57pm on Thursday.
According to initial investigations, the incident occurred at about 3.33pm when the victim was shocked to notice the suspect allegedly unzipping his trousers and engaging in indecent behaviour while staring at her.
The victim, who works at the supermarket, reportedly heard the sound of a zipper being opened and went to check, before allegedly discovering the suspect committing the act. She later confronted him and recorded the incident on her mobile phone, causing the suspect to leave the premises.
Police said the 55-year-old suspect was later identified and arrested. He is expected to be remanded to assist further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
Earlier, a two-minute 31-second video of the incident went viral online, showing a woman believed to be the supermarket employee confronting a man who was allegedly engaging in indecent behaviour inside the premises.
